BOOK NOWA Careful Plan for Stubborn Melasma
Melasma reacts to hormones, sun and heat, so the strongest laser is rarely the right one. Too much heat can make patches darker. We start by assessing your skin, then pair low-heat treatments with pigment-regulating skincare from AlumierMD and daily SPF. Melasma can’t be cured, but it can be faded and kept under control. Melasma Treatment at Healthpoint
How Our Melasma Treatment Works
Melasma responds best to a steady plan, not one big session. Here is what to expect.
01
Skin Assessment
We look at where your patches sit, how deep the pigment is and what triggers it, such as pregnancy, birth control, sun or heat.
02
Gentle In-Clinic Sessions
A short series of Laser Genesis, PicoWay Resolve or medical peels, spaced a few weeks apart, breaks up pigment with minimal heat.
03
Home Care & Maintenance
Pigment-regulating skincare and daily SPF hold your results, with maintenance visits to stop new patches settling in.

Melasma Treatment in Kelowna
Low-heat technology.
Laser Genesis and PicoWay Resolve treat pigment with minimal heat, which lowers the risk of the rebound darkening melasma is known for.
Medical oversight.
Plans are overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Steph, ND, who holds full prescribing rights in British Columbia.
Safer across skin tones.
PicoWay uses photoacoustic picosecond pulses rather than heat, making it a safer option for a broader range of skin tones than many older lasers.
Skincare that keeps working.
We pair in-clinic sessions with AlumierMD home care, so pigment stays suppressed between visits.
Pre & Post Treatment
How to prepare for your treatment?
Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for at least two weeks, pause retinoids and exfoliating acids for about a week, and arrive with clean, product-free skin. Let us know if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or have recently changed hormonal medication.
What to do after your treatment?
Expect mild redness for a few hours to a day. Skip saunas, hot yoga and intense workouts for several days, since heat can re-trigger melasma. Use gentle skincare only and apply SPF every morning, even on cloudy Okanagan days.

BOOK NOWThere is no single best treatment for everyone. Melasma usually responds best to a combination: a gentle laser or peel to break up existing pigment, pigment-regulating skincare to slow new production, and daily sunscreen. At Healthpoint, we choose between Laser Genesis, PicoWay Resolve and medical peels after assessing your skin type and how deep your pigment sits.
At Healthpoint Cosmetic, Laser Genesis is $250 per session and PicoWay Resolve is $900, plus GST. Most people need a series, so packages are available. Your exact plan and price are confirmed at a free consultation.
It can if the settings are too aggressive. Heat stimulates the pigment cells behind melasma, which can cause rebound darkening. That is why we favour low-heat options like Laser Genesis and picosecond PicoWay Resolve, start conservatively, and adjust over the series based on how your skin responds.
IPL can lighten melasma in some people, but it delivers more heat than the treatments we usually start with, so the risk of rebound is higher. We only use IPL for melasma in carefully selected cases with conservative settings. For sun spots and brown spots, IPL Photo Rejuvenation is often the better fit.
Most people see gradual improvement over a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Melasma fades slowly, and results depend on pigment depth, skin type and triggers like hormones and sun. We will give you a realistic session estimate at your consultation.
Melasma can return, especially with sun, heat or hormonal changes such as pregnancy. It cannot be cured, but it can be kept under control with daily SPF, pigment-regulating skincare and occasional maintenance sessions. Many people book a touch-up visit after summer.
