Licensed Technicians

Every procedure is performed by certified laser technicians. We use advanced diode laser devices that meet strict laser safety standards.

Permanent Hair Reduction

After a full course of 6–8 sessions, most clients experience 80–90% permanent reduction in hair density. Remaining hairs grow back finer, lighter, and significantly more sparse. Occasional maintenance sessions (1–2 per year) keep results smooth long-term.

Eliminates Ingrown Hairs

Chronic ingrown hairs and pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps) are caused by shaving and waxing forcing hair to grow back into the skin. Laser hair removal destroys the follicle’s ability to produce coarse hair, eliminating the root cause of ingrown hairs not just treating the symptoms.

Safe for All Body Areas

The Venus Velocity™ is approved for treatment on virtually every body area: face (upper lip, chin, sideburns, jawline), neck, underarms, arms, chest, abdomen, back, bikini line, Brazilian, buttocks, and full legs. Our technicians adjust the pulse width, fluence, and spot size for each specific anatomy.

How It Works

How Laser Hair Removal Works at Healthpoint Kelowna

Understanding the science behind your treatment builds confidence and leads to better results. Here is exactly what happens during each phase of your laser hair removal journey with us.

01

Consultation & Fitzpatrick Skin Assessment

Before your first session, our certified technician conducts a thorough skin and hair analysis. We classify your skin using the Fitzpatrick Scale (Types I through VI) a dermatological standard that measures your skin’s response to ultraviolet light and determines the optimal laser parameters for your treatment.

  • Type I — Very fair skin, always burns, never tans (Celtic heritage)
  • Type II — Fair skin, burns easily, tans minimally (Northern European)
  • Type III — Medium skin, sometimes burns, tans gradually (Southern European, East Asian)
  • Type IV — Olive/moderate brown skin, rarely burns, tans easily (Mediterranean, Hispanic, Middle Eastern)
  • Type V — Brown skin, very rarely burns, tans profusely (South Asian, Indigenous)
  • Type VI — Dark brown to black skin, never burns (African, Afro-Caribbean)

Our Venus Velocity™ diode laser is one of the few systems in Kelowna clinically validated for all six Fitzpatrick types. During consultation, we also screen for contraindications such as photosensitizing medications (isotretinoin, certain antibiotics, retinoids), active skin infections, and pregnancy.

02

Treatment — Targeted Energy Delivery

The Venus Velocity™ emits controlled pulses of 810nm laser energy that are absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft. This absorption converts light energy into thermal energy, which heats and disables the dermal papilla the structure responsible for generating new hair growth.

Most clients describe the sensation as a warm, pulsing feeling against the skin. The Venus Velocity™ integrated real-time contact cooling system maintains the skin surface at a comfortable temperature throughout the entire treatment, eliminating the “rubber band snap” sensation common with older devices.

Treatment times vary by area:

  • Upper lip: approx. 5–10 minutes
  • Underarms: approx. 10–15 minutes
  • Brazilian: approx. 15–20 minutes
  • Full legs: approx. 45–60 minutes
  • Full back: approx. 30–45 minutes
03

Post-Treatment & Hair Shedding Cycle

After treatment, you may experience mild warmth and temporary redness in the treated area  similar to a mild sunburn which typically resolves within 2–4 hours. Over the next 10–14 days, treated hairs will begin to shed naturally. This is not new growth; it is the treated hair being pushed out of the follicle.

Because hair grows in three distinct phases Anagen (active growth), Catagen (transitional), and Telogen (resting) and the laser can only effectively target hairs in the Anagen phase, multiple sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart are necessary to achieve optimal results.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal offers lasting benefits that go beyond appearance. Clients save time, reduce the cost of temporary solutions, and enjoy healthier skin.

Key Benefits:

  • Permanent hair reduction after multiple sessions
  • Reduction of ingrown hairs and skin irritation
  • Smooth, clear skin without shaving or waxing
  • Non-invasive and safe for daily routines
  • Cost-effective compared to long-term waxing

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about how treatments work, what to expect, or how to prep? You’re not alone. Whether you’re new to aesthetics or simply want to make informed choices, we’re here to guide you with expert knowledge and honest answers. Because feeling confident starts with feeling informed.

Q1 How many sessions will I need to see real results?

Most clients start noticing visible reduction within the first three to four sessions. For full results, six to eight sessions are normally recommended because hair grows in cycles. Some areas that are affected by hormones such as the face or underarms can take a few more sessions. We will guide you with a plan that matches your skin and hair type.

Laser hair removal provides long lasting results and most people experience up to eighty to ninety percent reduction. No clinic can promise one hundred percent permanent removal because our bodies continue to produce some new hair over time. However, the reduction is significant and you may only need occasional maintenance sessions to keep your skin smooth.

It feels like a quick snap, mild and brief. Our advanced lasers include cooling technology to keep the treatment as comfortable as possible.

Before your session, shave the treatment area about twenty four hours earlier and avoid tanning, waxing, or applying strong skin products. After the session, you may feel a little warmth or redness, which is normal and usually fades quickly. Keep the area clean, avoid direct sun exposure for a few days, and use sunscreen if the area will be outdoors.

Yes, shaving is perfectly fine and often recommended between sessions. Shaving does not affect the laser results because it does not disturb the root of the hair. Waxing, threading, or plucking should be avoided because they remove the root and can interfere with the effectiveness of your upcoming session.

Most people are excellent candidates for laser hair removal. It works best on individuals with noticeable contrast between their hair color and skin tone. During your consultation, We assess your hair growth pattern, skin sensitivity, and any medications you’re taking. It helps to determine the safest and most effective treatment plan for you.

You won’t see the full results after just one session, but many clients notice that treated hair begins to grow back slower and finer. Within 10 to 14 days, some of the treated hairs will start to shed naturally. With each session, hair becomes lighter, sparser, and less noticeable leading to long-lasting reduction over time.
