IPL is traditionally known as a depigmentation treatment for the removal of age spots and sun damage. The intense pulse light directs its energy into the affected area and heats the excess pigment, safely removing it without any damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. The result is an even monochromatic tone with little to no discolouration.
The IPL has been further refined to treat issues such as redness, rosacea, melasma, keratosis, and even pore and superficial skin tightening. Some IPLs—ours included—now even have the capability to differentiate between tanned skin and pigmented skin, allowing slightly tanned individuals a successful treatment under the right circumstances.
Because IPL treatments create instant dramatic results at a relatively low cost, they are among the most successful and popular aesthetics treatments today. In inexperienced hands, however, they are also one of the most volatile. A small miscalculation in the parameters chosen, or an improperly taken medical history can result in negative side effects. Class III lasers are not medical grade and should be avoided.
Healthpoint Laser Aesthetics uses the medical grade class laser which uses broadband light (BBL) technology with wavelengths ranging from 520 nm – 1100 nm and is capable of treating a wide variety of skin conditions.
Make certain you are being treated by a highly trained technician using medical grade (class IV) technology. Not all IPLs are created equally.
